‘Before the flood’. Dicaprio: a serious call for reflection for change

Leonardo Dicaprio offers his unscripted best in ‘Before the Flood,’ his documentary for National Geographic, free viewing. ‘Before the Flood’ it is good to know that climate change is leading the planet toward catastrophe, and only we can save it.

The disinformation perpetrated by the oil giants is reminiscent of that of the palm tree clique, where ‘opinion makers’ and ‘NGOs’ of environmental or scientific guise are financed to confuse the real data under the banner of denialism, then injected into the ‘mainstream media’ that always obeys the Voice of the Master.

But pictures better than words express incontrovertible truths. Waters ignited by ‘fracking’ in the U.S., forests flattened to derive oil from dense Canadian sands, tropical forests devastated along with tigers, orangutans and elephants in the name of palm in Indonesia. CO2 soars and the air is unbreathable, there as in India and also in China, which is then the only country to have really incorporated ecology into government policies in recent years.

Loud and clear is the final message. Only we – #consumActors, users and voters – can bring about the change that is essential to the turnaround. We need to open our eyes and react, first and foremost through conscious choices about consumption and reducing our environmental impact. Activism is needed, if only for the sake of the next generation.
