#ChainForFood,an innovative project that enables farmers, processors and consumers to develop fair and sustainable supply chains together. Dialogue, participation, transparency. In a word, Progress.
#ChainForFood, supply chain ecosystem.
The value of food is generated in the fields. And farmers’ efforts cannot be confined to the European stereotype ‘from farm to fork‘. Since it must begin with the analysis of soils-as well as sludge and water – And the careful selection of seeds. In respect of nature and biodiversity, in long strides and well away from genetic engineering and monopolies. (1)
#ChainForFood was created to put the farmer at the center of the value chain, contribute to research and development, and enable him or her to obtain the remuneration needed to improve products, production and the environment. Thanks to a virtuous path of supply chain integration
Made in Italy
which finds its crowning glory in offering – to professional users and consumAtors – products and information on the entire process, ‘
from seed to fork
‘.
The idea of ChainForFood was born in 2015, gathering the concrete interests of a growing number of farmers and agro-processing laboratories who shared its goals and tools. There are now a thousand supply chain operators involved and they can use blockchain technology) to network the data expressing their actual value. Also adhering to the project is a group of doctors who carry on the teachings of Hippocrates in modern civilization, so that diet and food are factors in health and not causes of disease.
Organic farming
is favored because it best meets the needs of environmental protection
, animal welfare
and health. For the sake of populations otherwise exposed to the so-called drift effect
of pesticides, and that of consumers
.
ChainForFood welcomes
also farmers who rigorously apply the integrated pest management method
, the effectiveness of which is ensured through field verification of good agricultural practices and specifications, as well as through records in the blockchain (referred to below).
#ChainForFood, Italy’s agribusiness blockchain
Democratizing blockchain technology and enabling its adoption by all farmers-regardless of the size of their farms-is one of the missions of Gian Luca Mascellino, founder of ChainForFood. Participating operators can therefore rely on a tested, comprehensive and user-friendly platform for interactive dialogue with economic stakeholders and consumers. In fact, the data can be accessed through simple smartphone Apps.
Transparency is based on collecting and entering the salient data of the production process. Seed origin and quality, field and fertilization notebooks, field work (e.g., green manure), harvesting, drying, and storage conditions. Data are collected through Excel sheets and supplemented with laboratory analyses of soils and water, raw materials and finished products.
Fairness of the data upload process is verified by audit, and all information is placed on DLT and public, unchangeable blockchain. Serving both B2B markets (
business to business
) and B2C (
business to consumers
), and related users. The
focus
initial focus of ChainForFood is on primary processing, whose industry needs qualified suppliers and effective guarantees, on processes and products, that go beyond the albeit useful certifications (such as Global GAP and ISO22000
).
The organization also offers an accompanying service to farms that want to go to market, identifying processors for processing and packaging, as well as product distribution channels. The next step will be to create a brand-umbrella, encompassing a system of ‘technologically advanced’ controls and the provision of information to users.
Viva!
